Adolescent Girls’ Mood Disorders Group

Therapist – Julie Bowden, PsyD

It is quite difficult to be an adolescent female in today’s world, but add depression or anxiety to the normal developmental issues teenage girls face and the outcome can be scary. If you are a parent or teacher of an adolescent female; you have noted a significant and sudden change in their behavior; and you aren’t sure where to turn or what to do, we can help.

The main objective of this group is for adolescent females to learn positive ways to cope with and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety that stem from a variety of internal and external sources. The group will give adolescents a chance to improve their social interactions with their peers.

Adolescents in the group will learn:

  • Strategies for managing stress and anxiety
  • Ways to appropriately communicate and assert themselves
  • Problem solving techniques
  • Positive coping skills/strategies
  • Effective methods for managing peer pressure
  • Ways to improve their relationships with others in their lives

The group, conducted by Julie Bowden, is open to a maximum of eight adolescent females (age 14-18) currently suffering from mood and related disorders. Starting on July 28th, group sessions will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mondays and run for seven consecutive weeks.

If you are interested in becoming a part of the group, please let your Relationship Resolutions therapist know. If you are not a current client with Relationship Resolutions, please call 412-921-3908 or email info@relationshipresolutions.org to schedule an intake appointment to determine your appropriateness for the group.

Please note that group members determine how much and what is disclosed at each group session. No one will ever be forced to discuss or divulge anything about which they are uncomfortable. At the beginning of each session, the therapist will remind group members that by participating, they have made a commitment to maintain the confidentiality of all members’ identities and experiences.
